Again, i think that basic trial and error approaches are instinctive with many animals, including young human children. But to call it science is a disservice to the complexity and sophistication of science.

It would be like saying that chimpanzee can squiggle, therefore they are artists.

And right, bacteria are not pondering anything, for the good reason that they don’t have brains.
