Blaine, it is not correct to say that in quantum mechanics neither waves nor particles exist until they are needed. “Particle” and “wave” are human concepts that simply do not apply to the subatomic world. We describe what happens at that level the best we can, but we should really just stick to the mathematics, which does not create linguistic ambiguities.

As for nothing happening without a cause, that would extend to god itself, so it solves nothing. Also, that statement is not a law of nature, it’s just an empirical generalization. We just don’t know.
