But in my view the evaluation of goodness or appropriateness of a given physical state is linked to the normal distribution of that state in the population, which in turn is a result of evolution. I don’t get the appropriateness of ear piercing as an example, since that’s (a) entirely voluntary and (b) not a physical disability.
