But sharpening pencils is not fun or interesting in its own right, math is. I think we need to get out of the notion that if X is not science therefore X is less valuable. At any rate, the standard understanding of science is that it *must* involve a hefty empirical component. So logic and math don’t qualify. And that’s not a problem.
