Colin, I’m completely on board with your analysis. Of course the choice of axioms can and should be subject to critical, evidence-based analysis. On that basis, creationism obviously fails.

But the point of the example is that it isn’t that these people are crazy or can’t reason. It’s that they do not share our assumptions about the world, and that their reasoning is motivated by different priorities than ours.
