Hermes, I disagree. My reading of the modern literature in cognitive science is that it goes well with the Stoic story. Animals don’t feel anger in the sense that Seneca is talking about. They have automatic responses, for instance to dangerous situation, which use the same neural mechanisms. But humans add the cognitive component. And that’s the one Stoicism focuses on.
