I often heard that argument, and even made it myself, occasionally. I don’t buy it anymore. Sure, science makes certain assumptions that are ultimately unprovable. Such as the existence of a physical reality. Okay, then what? How is “metaphysics” going to help justify those assumptions, since they are by definition beyond empirical investigation? It can’t. So it’s done.
