I think to ask what philosophy adds to science is to ask the wrong question. Philosophy is not a branch of science. Neither is history, for instance. They are their own disciplines, with their own goals, which are valuable regardless of whether they help science.

That said, there are instances in which philosophy of science is helpful to scientists in concept clarification, for instance in biology (species concepts) and fundamental physics (status of string and multiverse theories).
