Jacques, I'm with you, up to a point. Yes, science produces models of reality, does not give us access to reality itself. And yes, evolution did not evolve reason for the purpose of making scientific discoveries.

But there is a worrisome tendency in modern psychology to think of human beings as the "rationalizing" animals. No doubt we often are. But that doesn't mean logic, science, evidence, and so forth -- that is, rationality -- aren't both possible and extremely valuable.

After all, you just made a rational argument in your comment, no? Or do you think you were simply rationalizing your unconscious desires?
