Jordan, yes, a moral instinct definitely evolved in us (and other social primates) in order to further our survival and reproduction.

However, things got more complicated once cultural evolution, language, and large conglomerates of humans (cities) got going. From that point on morality hasn’t been only about survival / reproduction, but also flourishing. And it has built on our instincts to become a reasoned conversation.
