Laurence, nobody doubts that the swerve was integral part of Epicurus' thought. That doesn't make it a good idea.

Your comment about philosophers' "group think" is a bit strange. Would you accuse a group of scientists of the same, if you disagreed with their conclusions?

Yes, the swerve "enables" free will. But we get no explanation of where it comes from, or of how it does the enabling. So, bad move.
