Matthews, Fred Hoyle didn’t understand much about biology or evolution. his calculations are simply nonsensical. They don’t say anything relevant about natural selection.

As for intelligence, yes, there is intelligence in the universe. Obviously. And it evolved by natural means. We have a pretty good understanding of this, so I don’t see why anyone would want to go back to the situation as it was presented almost two hundred years ago.
