Rex, as it turns out, the demarcation of science / non-science / pseudoscience is one of my fields of professional study. I agree that the social sciences have different characteristics from the hard sciences (physics, chemistry) and from the historical sciences (biology, astronomy, geology). Nevertheless, I think they are sciences. But their subject matter (human beings and societies) is far more complex than anything studied by anyone else. So it's not really surprising that progress is slow.
