Roman, thanks for the example of the Buddhist monk, but there are plenty of materialists who have immolated themselves for a cause they retain worth it.

Plenty of materialists have done research on telepathy. They dismiss it because of lack of evidence, not because they are not idealists.

Christians are not idealists, they are largely materialists who also believe in the supernatural. And if they believe morality comes from god they would do well to read Plato’s Euthyphro. That’s just a reasoning mistake on their part. And at any rate, it’s a belief, not an action.

I’m pretty sure that when sick most idealists will take a medicine. And they will pray.

Also, you really think there is no way to tell between some of these examples? The guy who prays and refuses medicine is far more likely to die than the one who takes medicine and forgoes prayer. Does that count as evidence against the firstguy’s metaphysics?
