Stephen, with all due respect to G.B. Shaw, whom I greatly admire, Stoicism is not about adapting oneself to the world. Stoics literally thought wars and started revolutions in order to change the world. But they were aware of the fact that the only things that were truly up to them were their judgments, values, and decisions to act or not to act. We can try, collectively or not, to top a tyrannical regime. Sometimes we succeed, sometimes we don’t.
