The aspect of the manifest image that is mistaken is that, in fact, the little disk is gigantic, and that it doesn’t move (other than for rotating around its axis) with respect to the rest of the solar system. Those seems to me spectacular failures of the manifest image.

In general, Sellars was happy to go with the scientific image whenever it comes to matters of fact about how the world works. But the scientific image is insufficient when it comes to a lot of things we value. Such as the very concept of value, for instance.
