William, all good questions, and the answers are complex, of course. But when it comes to things outside of one’s control, yes, the only rational thing is to accept them. Otherwise one adds self-imposed misery to the one imposed by the circumstances.

That is absolutely NOT to say that we shouldn’t fight back and seek justice. Of course we should. But we also need to go into this as adults who understand the complexity of the situation and the limits of our own agency.
